Kotoko pip Dwarfs 1-0 in Premier League match


Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC raised the joy of its teeming supporters by beating Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 in their crunch Glo Premier League match at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi on Sunday.

With the defeat, the unbeaten run of the visitors in the 10-week old League has now broken by the Porcupine Warriors.

The only goal of the match came in the 59th minute of the second half through Daniel Nii-Adjei, when he headed home an inviting cross from Baba Rahman.

It was a match, which saw both teams exhibiting high class football with Kotoko slightly ahead in the exchanges.

Asante Kotoko should have taken the lead in the 23rd minute but a heavy -laden shot by striker Nathaniel Asamoah missed the post narrowly and again squandered another chance in the 31st minute when Augustine Okrah, in his first Premier League game shooting wide.

Dwarfs made some incursions in the latter parts of the half but the defence of Kotoko led by Awal Mohammed proved unyielding as they held them in check.

The visitors nearly took the lead in the 48 minute but a shot from Skipper Bismark Asiedu hit the post and bounced back into play.

Kotoko messed up another scoring opportunity in the 58th minute before Nii-Adjei struck to give his side the maximum three points with his individual effort.

During the tension packed match, Professor J. K. Mintah, Head Coach of Dwarfs was sent off the pitch by referee Solomon Mordey in the 81st minute for dissent. GNA
